The 7th century ancient fortress, Amberd sits on the slopes of Mount Aragats. The name of the fortress means ‘fortress in the clouds’ and refers to its high location (2300 meters above sea level). Amberd was constructed to defend the country against Arab invasions during the 7th and 8th centuries.
