Day Tour From Yerevan To Khor Virap, Noravank & Areni Winery
On this day, your tour starts at Khor Virap, located in the Ararat Plain, which was the first established monastery in Armenia in 642 AD. This is one of primary visiting sites in Armenia with the panoramic view of Mount Ararat and the Turkish border. The legend of this monastery is associated with St. Gregory the Illuminator, who was imprisoned there for 13 years. You can take lunch in one of the best places in Yeghegnadzor village.
After the lunch, stop by the Noravank Monastery, known for its brick-red cliffs. It is located in a narrow gorge of Amaghu River. This monastery is an example of the ornate architecture of 13th century. The sculptor of the biggest portion of Noravank is Momik, who also carved a number of religious Armenian monuments known as “khachkars”. On the way back to Yerevan, you’ll stop by Areni Village where you’ll have an excursion and wine degustation in “Areni-1” Winery, known for its wine production. Return to Yerevan at the end of the day tour.
