Day Tour To Khor Virap, Noravank, Areni & Tatev
Today, visit the iconic Khor Virap Monastery, right on the foot of the biblical Mt. Ararat. The legend of this monastery is associated with St. Gregory the Illuminator, who was imprisoned here for 13 years. This is one of the primary tourist sites in Armenia with its panoramic view of Mount Ararat and the Turkish border. You can take lunch in one of the best places in Yeghegnadzor village.
The next site is Noravank Monastery, known for its brick-red cliffs, it is located in a narrow gorge of Amaghu River. A gem of the Armenian medieval architecture, the 13th century monastery is the masterpiece of Master Momik. On the way back to Yerevan, stop by Areni village, and enjoy some wine-tasting at Areni Winery.
After that, pay a visit to the medieval Monastery of Tatev. In order to reach there, you need to ride the world’s longest reversible ropeway passing over the Vorotan Gorge. In the 13-15 centuries, Tatev used to be the center of the Armenian science and arts, and you will be able to see what has remained of Tatev University. Return to Yerevan at the end of the day tour.
