Saghmosavank, Hovhannavank, Alphabet Monument & Amberd Fortress
This day we will visit Aragatsotn Region – this part of Armenia, especially Mt. Aragats, has always attracted the attention of travelers, tourists and geologists due to a tremendous number of historical monuments and beautiful landscapes.
Artashavan – New Complex of Armenian Letters: “It is difficult to express the deep feeling Armenians have for their language, which many regard as the lifeblood of their culture”.
Afterwards, we will visit Hovhannavank and Saghmosavank Monasteries. Saghmosavank perch on the edge of the precipitous gorge of the Kasakh River. Continue the trip by visiting the 7th century medieval fortress Amberd, which is located on the slopes of Mount Aragats.
The site had been inhabited by the Urartians in the ancient times, but the medieval fortress was constructed as a defense against invading Arab armies in the 7th and 8th centuries AD. Return to Yerevan at the end of the day tour.
