🏛 Tour Highlights
Old Tbilisi & Metekhi Church
Begin your exploration in the historical heart of Tbilisi. The Metekhi Church, dating back to the 13th century, is perched on a cliff above the Mtkvari River and was historically the seat of Georgian royalty and the kingdom’s judicial system. From this vantage point, you’ll enjoy sweeping panoramic views over Tbilisi’s rooftops and the river. Nearby, Narikala Fortress, an ancient citadel founded in the 4th century, dominates the skyline and reflects centuries of Georgian military history. Other key sites in Old Tbilisi include Sioni Cathedral, originally built in the 6th–7th centuries and rebuilt multiple times, showcasing impressive Georgian religious architecture, as well as the city’s synagogue and the only remaining mosque, highlighting Tbilisi’s multicultural heritage.
Abanotubani (Sulfur Baths)
Walk through Abanotubani, the historic sulfur bath district at the foot of Narikala Fortress. Famous for its domed brick baths fed by natural hot springs, this area is a cornerstone of Tbilisi’s history. Legend says the King of Iberia discovered the hot springs here, founding the city of Tbilisi (“Tbili” meaning “hot”). Visitors can admire the intricate brick and mosaic architecture of the bathhouses, which remain a symbol of the city’s wellness and social life.
Sharden Street
Explore Sharden, a pedestrian street in Old Tbilisi lined with cozy cafes, traditional wine bars, art galleries, and souvenir shops. This bustling area is perfect for experiencing local culture, sampling Georgian cuisine, and enjoying the lively atmosphere. The street is also famous for its preserved 19th-century architecture and outdoor art displays.
Mtskheta – Ancient Capital of Iberia
Continue to Mtskheta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the ancient royal and religious capital of Georgia from the 4th century BC to the 6th century AD. This city is the spiritual heart of Georgia and offers insight into its early Christian heritage. Visit Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century hilltop church overlooking the confluence of the Aragvi and Kura Rivers. Jvari is an outstanding example of early Georgian church architecture and is surrounded by breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. Then, explore Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, an 11th-century masterpiece known as the “Life-Giving Column.” According to legend, it houses the burial robe of Christ, making it a sacred site of immense religious significance.
